Dr. William Smith is an Associate Professor working at School of Digital Technologies & School of Business. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy—summa cum laude, from The European Graduate School (EGS) at Valais, Switzerland, later holding the title of Antonin Artaud Fellow. He received a Master of Arts in Media Studies from The New School for Social Research in New York, and Bachelor of Arts from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.
His academic career spans over 15 years and includes working as Program Director of MS/MFA in Emerging Media in Shanghai, Campus Dean of a China-USA joint-partnership in Beijing, and Program Director and Chair at leading universities in Dubai, UAE. Dr. William’s research trajectories build around themes of critical media studies, aesthetics, and how our lives are influenced by technology, as well as the disruptive nature of technology and the overarching implications of communication on society—social and cultural phenomena.
Prior to entering academia, Dr. William worked as a communication consultant in Silicon Valley where he led several independent entrepreneurial projects and his own successful advertising and design agency in Seattle. He has also directed and produced several independent and documentary films, and TV programs in USA, China, and Japan.
