Dr. Gulnoza Usmonova

Dr. Gulnoza Usmonova is an Assistant Professor of Tourism and Management with more than ten years of combined experience in academia, research, and tourism industry development. She earned her PhD in Tourism, Economics, and Management from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, one of the world’s leading tourism schools in partnership with UNESCO, where her dissertation explored residents’ and stakeholders’ perceptions of sustainability in community-based tourism. 

Dr. Usmonova has taught leading Tourism and Hospitality programs across Spain, Italy and Uzbekistan, designing curricula, mentoring faculty, and building strong partnerships with the private sector. She has a decade of practical experience in tourism development, including market research, new product development, destination branding, and capacity-building projects. 

She is certified by Cornell University in Sustainable Tourism Destination Management, enhancing her expertise in destination planning and sustainable development strategies. Her research interests include sustainable tourism, destination and place marketing, climate change impacts on tourism, and tourism’s role in socio-economic development in emerging markets. 

Beyond academia, Dr. Usmonova has consulted for international organizations, including UNWTO, EBRD and USAID, and recently worked as an international consultant in Washington, DC, where she supported tourism sector strategies, market activation initiatives, and public-private dialogues to advance sustainable economic growth.
