Tashkent, Uzbekistan — May 13, 2025 — The American University of Technology (AUT) proudly hosted its inaugural Model United Nations (MUN) conference on May 11, welcoming more than 100 high school delegates from across Tashkent. Organized in close partnership with the Chilanzar District Administration, the event offered a dynamic and immersive platform for students to engage in diplomacy, negotiation, and solution-oriented dialogue on some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
Participants were assigned to represent countries within four simulated UN committees, discussing topics ranging from climate action to misinformation and the global migration of talent. The event reflected AUT’s commitment to fostering leadership, civic responsibility, and global citizenship among young people in Uzbekistan.
Delegates explored timely global issues across four committees, including misinformation and democracy (General Assembly), brain drain and talent retention (ECOSOC), plastic pollution and marine conservation (UNEP), and responses to global refugee movements and humanitarian protection (UNHCR).
The conference opened with welcoming remarks from AUT’s Founding Rector, Professor Said Irandoust, who encouraged students to approach the day with empathy, curiosity, and courage. “Leadership is not about winning debates, but about building understanding,” he told delegates. “You are not just simulating diplomacy—you are practicing it.”
Distinguished guests included the Mayor of Chilanzar District, Mr. Saidgahhor Xolxojayev, who praised the event’s educational and civic impact. “Empowering our youth with platforms like the Model UN is essential for shaping the future of our city and our nation. We are proud to support initiatives that encourage leadership, dialogue, and international awareness,” he said during the opening ceremony.
Mr. Timur Rakhmanov, Founding Partner of AUT, also addressed the delegates, highlighting the university’s broader mission. “AUT was established to prepare students not only for successful careers but for meaningful impact in society. Today’s Model UN reflects that vision—bringing together talented young minds to collaborate, challenge ideas, and contribute to a better future,” he noted.
The event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of AUT’s faculty, staff, and student volunteers, as well as the generous support of the Chilanzar District leadership. Special appreciation is extended to Deputy Mayor Mr. Alisher Farxadovich and to Ms. Ruhsora, an AUT student whose initiative helped launch the MUN event in coordination with the district.
In his closing remarks, Professor Irandoust thanked the delegates and reaffirmed AUT’s commitment to building a vibrant, engaged academic community. “You came to AUT as students, and you leave today as diplomats, problem-solvers, and global thinkers,” he said. “The world needs more young leaders like you—and we are honored to have been part of your journey.”
